Steven Robert Fisher

June 19, 1945 ~ July 13, 2022

Steven R. Fisher, age 77, of Jenison, entered Heaven to be with his Savior on July 13, 2022, following his passing at home. He was born June 19, 1945, in Marion, Ohio. He attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and it was there he met his wife, Kathy. After graduating in 1967, he attended graduate school at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. Steven taught junior high school in Findlay, Ohio before starting a career as a Special Agent with the FBI. He served in Atlanta, Georgia; Ithaca, New York; and both Detroit and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Steven was an instructor in various state and local police schools in New York, Vermont, and Michigan. His investigative responsibilities focused on foreign counterintelligence and counterespionage. Retiring after 29 years, he and his wife joined Cadence International, a Christian mission agency serving the US military around the world. Steven and Kathy directed a hospitality house in Vicenza, Italy for five years where those in the military and their families could enjoy a Christian family atmosphere. Following their full-time service in Italy, they served part-time assignments in Germany, Spain, and Japan. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Kathy; sons, Jay, and Andrew (Dani); and five grandchildren: Madison, Shayden, Liam, Reid, and Mason. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 11 a.m at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Kevin Meek officiating. Jus now hearing of Steve’s passing. So sorry for your loss. Steve and I were high school classmates. It may have been a high school class reunion where we reconnected and I learned about him developing a deep faith in Christ. We connected several times again after you joined Cadence and then lost track. He was a brother in Christ and a friend.

Dear Kathy and family. We have such happy memories of you and Steve during your time in Ithaca: worshipping together at Bethel Grove Bible Church, Steve’s interest in our son Russ when they participated in Boys Brigade, and knitting a baby sweater for your first Little One. Steve’s was a life well lived. He’s finished his race and the Lord Jesus welcomed him by saying, We’ll done, my good and faithful servant”. You are loved and prayed for. Don and Joanie Burgett

Steve and Kathy ministered to me while in Vicenza, Italy. As a service member they were part of the wave of "wise" men and women that Cadence ministry sent to guide us. His death is bittersweet...his destination is ASSURED. See you in Heaven Steve.

Steve was a great friend and always warmly welcomed this alumnus of the VHH as a guest. He not only knew his Scripture but practiced it. He was a kind and gentle soul with a pleasant sense of humor.

We are so sorry that Steve is no longer here but glad that he is with the Lord. We met you close to 40 years ago when we were invited to a Bible Study at your home. We immediately fell in love with both of you. You made us feel so welcome especially since we knew no one. We were just talking how special it was to visit you both while you were serving as missionaries in Italy. What a privilege for us. I can still see that amazing smile that Steve had for everyone and how much he loved to play golf. Well, if there is golf in heaven, Steve is playing 18 holes with Jesus right now. We are praying for comfort and peace for the whole family.

I knew Steve via my work with him through the Ann Arbor RA. He was the consummate agent, always friendly, able to gain the trust of both subjects and witnesses alike. I am saddened to hear of his passing and I will miss his friendship and cheerful look on life. God speed my friend.

HD the pleasure of serving with Steve in Detroit, 84-89. While were assigned to different areas we did share a squash court from time to time, conversation followed. Steve was an articulate and thoughtful person, may he rest peacefully.

Kathy, Steve was such a great guy who will be missed by all who knew him. I remember when Susie and I visited you in Vincenzo and you took us to see Lake Garda. I drove on the way back and you and Steve and Susie all fell asleep. Here I was driving in Italy and not knowing for sure where I was going. Fortunately I knew just enough Italian to get us back home. Steve and I met in Williams Hall as freshmen and we ended up pledging the same fraternity. As actives, Steve and I used to put on skits and we had fun trying to make everyone laugh. Steve was one of a kind and we all miss him already. Rest In Peace brother. AEKDB Sam Kurtz

Dear Kathy, It was with much sadness that I heard of Steve’s recent passing. I have so many wonderful memories of both of you during our Kappa Sigma fraternity days at Bowling Green. When I just read Steve’s obituary, I was so impressed with the interesting and adventurous life you both have shared together, especially your mission work. Please know that Cindy and are thinking of you and your family and are holding you in our prayers.

We have often thought back fondly to the friendship and fellowship we shared in Vicenza. Your ministry had a lasting impact on our lives, as you shared your genuine, generous hearts! Sadly, our paths did not cross again here on earth, but will when we are all Home. ❤️ May the Lord’s love and care deeply comfort you, Kathy, and all your family in the days ahead.

20+ years ago you both welcomed our family of 6 into your lives. When we describe Steve and Kathy we always say “when we grow up we want to be just like them!” Loving, kind, full of dad jokes and a great love for Jesus.

I remember going with your family to many Sunday brunches and spending many evenings playing board games at your house or spending time together. Steve and your whole family always had a great joy and we loved being with you all! As In hebrews, although he is dead, through his faith he still speaks. Steve’s influence and love for Jesus will carry for generations to come in your family and beyond! Love Erik

I met Steve in 1985 as the FBI agent across the street ..... It began a friendship that will last eternally. He introduced me to Jesus as I never knew Him before, and then taught me to share Him with others. When it came to sharing Jesus with others Steve truly surrendered to the Holy Spirit. I love him as a friend, a mentor, and as a brother in Christ. Please keep his family in your prayers as well as his spiritual children, WE ARE MANY !!!!

Steve wrote a 2008 letter to describe how God used Parkinsons to help Steve improve his life. Steve didn't blame God for his Parkinsons. Nor did he complain. He wrote about how Parkinsons, through God's work, made Steve a better husband, father, and man. The letter was wonderful, full of everything I have grown to love about Steve. Kindness, introspection with holy guidance, and an endearing spirit that sustained him were all manifested in this letter and his life. His perspective is one we should all adopt and follow. Steve Fisher was a wonderful man.
