Tammy Hansen

May 21, 1967 ~ October 4, 2022

Tammy Lynn Hansen, age 55, died Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from complications due to scleroderma at University of Michigan Health West in Wyoming, Michigan. She was born May 21, 1967, in Pontiac, Michigan, to Connie and Carl Sheehy. In 1989, she graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Biology and became a science teacher. She was a beloved teacher who fostered relationships with her students and wanted to see them succeed. This led her to pursue leadership positions within school administration and she received her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University in 2007. She was a Center Director at Link Learning (a virtual school) and she would frequently check-in with students at all hours, drive all over the state to meet with students, deliver technology, and assist with students’ administrative needs. Tammy was an avid reader, often found in car parks finishing her book, most likely after getting her daily Diet Coke. She loved to travel and traveled as much as possible with scleroderma, hitting up all the hot springs she could! She is best known for road tripping to Reno and making a pit stop in Denali, Alaska. She was an active member in TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) for over 25 years and received The Century Award while in the hospital for taking off 100 pounds and keeping it off for a year. Tammy is survived by her children, Rachel Hansen, Dallas Hansen, and Jackson (Caitlin) Oke; mother, Connie Sheehy; sister, Barb (Scott) Antles; her nieces and nephew, Ashley (Andrew) Efting and family, Aubrey Antles, Alexis Antles, and Ryan Antles. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Sheehy, who welcomed her to heaven after he passed away earlier this year. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Clyde Park Church of the Nazarene, 2545 Clyde Park Ave. SW, with Rev. Ryan Quanstrom officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday, October 14, from 1:00-1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for funeral expenses or to the National Scleroderma Foundation (https://scleroderma.org/michigan-chapter/).
