Tena Kooistra

May 6, 1941 ~ January 29, 2024

Tena Irene (Hazenberg) Kooistra, 82, loving mother, grandmother, and beloved friend went to be with her Heavenly Father on January 29, 2024. A woman of faith, who held firm onto God’s promises, especially during times of difficulty, entered the gates of Heaven singing songs of praise and thanksgiving to her Heavenly Father, Lord and Savior.

Tena was born on May 6, 1941 to Herman and Hermine Hazenberg in the Netherlands. At the age of nine, her family immigrated to Michigan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth; infant daughter, Kristie; and brother, Nick Hazenberg. She will be missed by her children, Gwendolyn (Jeff) Hazekamp, Lisa (Todd) VerHage, Jodi (Dennis) Boer; stepchildren, Jon Kooistra, AnnMarie (Tim Carlson) Kooistra, Christopher (Gwyn) Kooistra; her loving grandchildren as well as her many friends. Tena will be remembered for her love of family and friends and time spent together, her love of the Lord, and the joy that travel, reading a good book, or time spent in the sun brought her.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 10 , 2024 at MKD Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. There will be a time of visitation from 10-11 am, followed by funeral service officiated by Pastor Philip Vos, followed by a luncheon and time to share remembrances. I just wanted to express my sincere condolences. I go to Tena's church.. Cornerstone URC. I only got to meet Tena for the first and last time last summer. I was hoping to see her soon. But she is singing with the saints of old and walking hand in hand with her Beloved Savior where the angels have trod. May God give the family the strength and peace they need during this difficult time. Like I said I only got to meet Tena once, but I could tell she was quite a lady.

Sympathy to all of you in the loss of such a wonderful Mom and Grandma. Tena was a much loved member of our happy band of Sunset Manor "poolies." #Alittleexercisenadawholelotoffun I wish I could be there, in person, to share your sorrow and to thank God for Tena's precious life. Praising Jesus that we'll spend Eternity together!

Thank you for hosting all the wonderful family get togethers and serving delicious food to all us kids and grandkids over the years. I always loved coming over as a kid and getting to swim in the pool. I may not have always been a good kid but you always loved me and I appreciate it. I know you're in a better place with Ken singing all your favorite songs free from pain and suffering. Hope you leave a spot for all of us when it is our time, love Brennen. I only got to know you for a short time, but I am so forever grateful to have had that opportunity. You were such a beautiful person inside and out, and I feel so blessed for the conversation we had at my bridal shower. You will be missed so dearly. We love you. ❤️ Love, Phoenix
