Virginia was born on June 9, 1924 in Muskegon, MI, and passed away on September 22, 2020, at the age of 96.
Virginia graduated from Muskegon High School in 1942. She was employed most of her life as a receptionist at Detroit Mutual Insurance Company, Muskegon Community College, Muskegon Regional Center, Cannon Muskegon, and Nugent Sand. Virginia was an avid reader, who loved to dance and sing. She was the favorite aunt to many and was cherished and loved by most everyone who knew her. Virginia lived with Alzheimer’s disease for the last 15 years of her life, but remained complimentary and friendly to everyone she met.
She is survived by her children, Stephen Mortenson, Autumn Thomas, Charles (Michele) Mortenson, Jeanne Marek (Gene Klinge), and Fran (Dick) Johnson; grandchildren, Anthony Walker, Paula (Luke) Rexford, Tanya (Matt) Boertman, Anna Marek (Alex Kim), and Adam Mortenson; great-grandchildren, Elisa and Luke Rexford; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Swan and Freda (Lundgren) Larson; husband, Harold Hughes; former husband Thomas Mortenson; and siblings, Florence Van Hall, Saramae (Wayne) Hughes, and Harold “Rex” (Margaret) Larson.
A celebration of Virginia’s life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charitable organization of your choice.
