My fond memories of Mr. Kamstra are from my time as a student at GRCCHS in the 1960s, but also as a classmate and friend of Doug throughout grade and high school. My condolences to Doug and the rest of the family.

Bill was my principal at GRCHS on Franklin Street. A great principal. Couple of stories. During the morning break, a bunch of us guys would leave the campus and go to a garage in the neighborhood about a block away for a smoke. One day he showed up. He observed the scene and then said, I hope you are enjoying yourselves (it was 30 degrees) and then left. My second remembrance of him was at our HS graduation practice at Calvin College. Each of us had to practice walking across the stage and receiving our diploma. When I received my "diploma" from the practice session it turned out to be all the notes I had written to skip class my senior year. Years later, my father befriended Bill at Raybrook. One evening I met my Dad/Senetta and Bill and his friend at Arnie's for dinner. When I relayed the graduation story to him, he just smiled. Truly a wonderful principal and an even better individual. He made a difference in a lot of lives. Al Havinga GRCHS '69

"Well done, good and faith servant'' says the Lord of Bill. He was loved by all who knew him. He was a kind teacher, a good listener , and a positive influence on all who knew him . He lived long and well and we are thankful to have worked with him. Praise the Lord who rewards Bill with eternal joy. Sincerely, Arnie and Shirley Snoeyink

My sympathy to you in the passing of Bill. For many years he and I enjoyed a very special professional and personal relationship that was very important to me. Bill was a very wise and caring Christian to whom I could turn when faced with both personal and professional challenges. We were very compatible and enjoyed spending time together. God gave him to be the head of your clan for many years and you will miss him so very much. And I will also. But we can also rejoice that by God's grace he now occupies a room in his new heavenly home. I cannot visit you at the funeral home or attend the funeral service because of my hearing and balance problems but be assured that I will be praying for you.

I have so many fun memories of Mr. Kamstra. I ran into him approximately six years ago or so at Raybrook assisted living where my mother was living. I reminded him that I was one of the students at Christian high. Toward the end of my senior year, Mr. Kamstra expelled me for a day or two, because I hit him with a water balloon , after a friend of mine, p the intended target moved out of the way, quickly Both he and I had a good laugh about this experience . His wonderful daughter was a classmate of mine, and I know he was very proud of her. what a wonderful man and I look forward to seeing him in heaven someday

Dr. Kamstra was my favorite principal. My mother, Esther Poortvliet worked for him as a secretary at Jenison High School and was very fond of him as well.

Uncle Bill, you were always a wonderful, warm, classy, knowledgeable, caring Uncle to me. You opened up your house to me when I was at Calvin and was always a part of my extended family. Your wisdom, warmth and spunk will be missed. Say hi to Dad for me in heaven.
