Allen Roy DeVol, passed away at home on March 20, 2024, after battling cancer for an extended time. He was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife of 45 years, Connie. He will finally have the chance to see his son, AJ, who was tragically killed in 2002. Al and Connie have lived with this horrible grief all these years. Al was born on July 15, 1940, the first of nine children. He was known in his formative years by his nickname, Butch. He taught all of us the value of hard work and determination. While he never obtained a college degree, he was more well read and educated than most graduates. He was a friend to everyone he met and never had a bad word for anyone. Al was intensely interested in cars, photography, and stereos. He could often be found with his camera at many Jenison athletic events, whether on the field or court. He was well known in the community. Al was an excellent handyman and accumulated tools and equipment to be envied. He will be missed by many. Al was preceded in death by his son, Allen Marshall (AJ); parents, Allen L. DeVol, Jr. and Beatrice A. DeVol; brothers, David DeVol and Michael DeVol. He is survived by his wife, Connie (Thorp); siblings, Susan Purcey, Patricia (Bernie) Hillary, Daniel DeVol (Patsy), James DeVol, Linda (Dean) Kindle, Kim (Robert) Irish; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Kenny Hoskins officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Jenison Pink Out.
