Charles Duane Buist

Charles “Chuck” Buist, age 81, of Grand Rapids, reunited with his beloved wife, Barb in their heavenly home, on Sunday, January 8, 2023. Chuck graduated from South Christian High School. He bought his first popcorn wagon when he was 16 years old, which later launched him into the business in concessions that he would own for most of his life. He was an avid snowmobiler, car racing fan, and outdoorsman. Chuck also enjoyed camping, and after retiring spent many summers in the U.P. and traveling with his wife, Barb. He could talk to anybody, and was able to touch many lives with his friendship and story-telling. He will be greatly missed for the gift he was to his family as their role model. He instilled morals, discipline and compassion into his family which made their foundation unshakable. He was always caring, and he always protected, encouraged, and supported them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Helen Buist; and wife, Barb Buist. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Kevin (Bev) Buist, Kelly (Greg) Bordewyk, Tim (Anne) Opolski, Denis (Char) Opolski; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister, Phyllis (Ron) Sikkema. Memorial services will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 2 pm at MKD Kentwood Chapel, 4646 Kalamazoo Avenue, Kentwood, with Rev. Bruce Wilson officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family for visitation for an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Michigan Chapter.
