October 8, 2024

Dawn Marie Blair, 61, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, in Kentwood, MI, in her loving Marine son's home. She was born on August 14, 1963. Dawn grew up attending Godwin Public Schools, where she laid the foundations of a life marked with resilience and dedication.

Dawn was known for being strong-willed, confident, and hardworking, not to mention her outspoken nature. Her passions were deeply rooted in her love for her family - she talked endlessly about her grandchildren and how proud she was of them. She spoke continuously about how beautiful and bright Morgan was, how handsome and wonderful Bentley was, how much Harper showed so much respect for God and life, and how smart and how much like his dad Owen was. However, she loved shopping, crafting, reading, traveling and watching every court TV trial possible. She loved her grandchildren more than life.

She found great joy and passion in her job as a school bus driver for Greenville and Crystal Schools. She loved the kids who jumped on her bus every day, and though her strictness took them aback, they reported great memories of their time with her. They knew she cared.

Dawn was a great mother, and she will be remembered as such by her children and their families: Amanda Hess, daughter and husband Jim; Tyler Betterly, son and wife Cindy; Dayton Betterly, son and fiancée Heather; Tristin Blair, son, and fiancée Makayla; grandchildren: Morgan Dutkiewicz, Bentley Betterly, Harper Betterly, and Owen Betterly. She will also be remembered by her loving ex-husband, Todd Blair; and his children: Ashley and Bradley Blair.
Her parents preceded her in death: David Hale, father, and Darlene Howell, mother. Her grandparents are Clarence TenHopen, her grandfather; Maxine TenHopen, her grandmother; and Debra Hale, her sister.

A gathering to celebrate Dawn's life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Encounter Church, 4620 Kalamazoo Ave SE Kentwood, MI, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will provide an opportunity for friends, family, and community members to meet, share memories, and pay their respects. A small memorial service will be held, followed by a luncheon where attendees can continue to celebrate Dawn's life and legacy.
