Edward Potyraj

Edward “Eddie” F. Potyraj, age 92, of Allendale, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 27, 2022. Ed was a kind and loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa who was blessed with a great sense of humor. He loved being social and would know someone no matter where he went. Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked and was the owner of Robbins Lock Shop from 1954 until he retired. Ed was generous with his time and resources, sponsoring many softball and bowling teams. He was an active member of St. Luke Church in Allendale and was a former member of St. Francis Xavier in Grand Rapids. Ed was an active member of the Polish Heritage Society. He also was a member of the American Legion #258 and served on the Banana Detail at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. He was also active with the Grand Rapids Golden Gloves and Boys State. Ed was a member of the Grand A’s and participated in many parades and tours. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially fishing both in the summer and winter. Many family memories were made “tramping” through the woods and finding the perfect picnic spot. Above all, his love and commitment to his family was evident to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jan and Agnes Potyraj; siblings, Lottie, Frank, Jan, John, Anthony, Mary, and Joseph; son-in-law, John Hansen; and dear friend and nephew, Benny. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 71 years, Chara (Robbins) Potyraj; children, Sue Brown, Sally Hansen, Kate and Mike Rodibaugh; Rob and Mary Kay Potyraj; grandchildren, Jacob and Michele Smith, Kyle and Janae Hansen, Joel Hansen, Benjamin and Audrey Rodibaugh, Jack and Julie Rodibaugh, Sara Rodibaugh, John and Beth Debri, Josh and Claire Potyraj, Matt and Lizzie Potyraj, nine great-grandchildren; sister, Stella Homrich; sister-in-law, Gaye and Mike Scott; and many loving nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke University Parish, 10144 42nd Ave, Jenison, with Fr. Rob Mulderink presiding. The burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Friday, September 30, from 5-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Allendale) 6651 Scott St. where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:45 p.m. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans or to St. Luke University Parish.
