Eugene “Gene” Wolf, age 90, of Byron Center, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, March 18, 2023 where he was reunited with the love of his life, Shirley. Gene was a warm, loving, caring husband, father and grandfather, and was affectionately called Pa. He was a faithful servant of God and was born with a servant’s heart. He loved helping family and friends and was known to pitch in to educate others with his mechanical expertise. He loved golfing, fishing, gardening and bird watching. Most of all he loved his family and being with them at gatherings. He loved desserts but his favorite was pie, any kind of pie. He was an avid sports fan for any Michigan team: the Lions, U of M, MSU, Tigers, etc. Gene achieved the rank of 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus where he volunteered to help with the K of C Charities. He was very patient when teaching the kids and grandkids how to do things around the house. Gene had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes and laughing at his own jokes. He attended Kelloggsville High School and was very athletic, playing quarterback, and was voted homecoming king. He worked at Thomas Heating and Cooling for 25 years and then retired from Steelcase after 19 years of service. Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; son-in-law, Dennis Werkema and several siblings. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Vickie Lynn Werkema, Debra Rae and Stephen Gage, Kimberlee Sue and Rick Heuvelman; 9 grandchildren: Chad Werkema, Tammy Heyboer, Alisa Sinke, Christy Gage, Audrey Nielsen, Matthew Gage, Ashley Heuvelman-Smith, Jennifer Moore, Amanda Vasquez; 20 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Thomas Wolf, Shirley Nelson, Carol and John Wulfsen, Judy and Jay Hall, Paulette and Ron Reed; sister-in-law Kathy Wolf; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 4101 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 5-8 pm, with a rosary at 4:30 pm, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming.
