Floyd Postma

May 29, 2022

Floyd John Postma, of Jenison, eagerly entered into the arms of Jesus in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 29, 2022. Born on July 12, 1927, to John and Emma Postma of Rudyard, Michigan, and lived out his childhood years on the family farm. Responsibility was a mantle he carried willingly as the eldest of his siblings at home after his father’s early death. Floyd moved to Grand Rapids after he met and fell in love with Ruth Herrema, the love of his life, but to his dying day he was proud to be a Yooper. Having recently celebrated 74 years of marriage, Floyd will be remembered for his deep love for Ruth and his family. His dedication was unwavering in his commitment and support of Christian education and within his church, Hope CRC in Grandville. Floyd and Ruth sang in the church choir and Metropolitan Choir of Praise for decades. As a dad and grandpa he encouraged us to pray with solemnity, sing in four-part harmony at the dinner table, drink our coffee hot, and lick the ice cream bowl clean. Floyd was most at home when tinkering on vehicles and equipment, working in his garden, or when enjoying a piece of pie. After retirement, he and Ruth enjoyed the freedom to travel in their motorhome. He also discovered the joy of being on the golf course and could be found there often with his brothers or friends. Throughout the years, the Postma siblings and their families, as well as the Herrema’s have each held a very special bond, gathering together frequently. Family reunions have knit the generations together and we are blessed to be holding these precious memories! Floyd will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Ruth; son, Roger (Sharon) Postma; daughter, Janice Postma; grandchildren, Christine Postma, Jeffrey Postma (Shani Feyen), Stacy Stanley, Darlene Postma; several step-great-grandchildren; sister, Stella Postma; brothers, Sherm (Angie) Postma, Bill (Coralyn) Postma, Phil (Sara) Postma; sisters-in-law, Carol (Jim) Koetje, Bea Geelhoed, and Mae Kramer; brothers-in-law, Jun (Carrie) Herrema, Nels (Jean) Herrema, and Arch Herrema; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends. He is preceded in death by an infant daughter; son, David (Janet) Postma; sisters, Ethel (August) Wagner, Johanna (Floyd) VanSloten; brothers, Paul Postma, John Postma, Howard (Adele) Postma; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fritz Postma, Lucille Herrema, Harv (Margaret) Herrema, Rich (Tress) Herrema, Mart Geelhoed, Don Kramer, and Linda Herrema; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews. A private burial took place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with his Pastor Dale Fopma officiating. With hearts of gratitude, we thank the wonderful nursing staff of Waterford Place Assisted Living and the medical team of Faith Hospice for their love and care! For those who wish, memorial contributions can be given to Faith Hospice or the organization of your choice. Family and friends are invited to share in a memorial service of Thanksgiving and Celebration on Friday, August 19 at 2 pm at Hope Christian Reformed Church, 3110 Barrett Ave SW, Grandville with Pastor Dale Fopma officiating.
