Georgia Jeanne Hall

​Georgia J. Hall, age 95, of Kentwood, was called home to the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 4, 2024. She was born February 12, 1928 to the late Willis and Dorothy Earle. Georgia was predeceased by two husbands, Clifford Harvey Hall, Duane Furtwangler; son, Kip Earle Hall; step-son, Michael Furtwangler; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Willis (Nancy) Earle and James Earle.

Georgia married Clifford Harvey Hall on June 1, 1946 in Parma, Michigan. They had three children, Terry Lee (Harold) Hirsch, Kip Earle Hall and Gregory Martin (Laura) Hall. Clifford and Georgia packed up their belongings along with their children and moved to Ypsilanti, where they both graduated from Eastern Michigan University and began their teaching careers. Georgia taught first grade, and her goal was to make sure each of her students knew how to read before they moved on to the second grade. They both retired in 1983, and moved to the Grand Rapids area to be closer to their family of five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, LuAnn Earle. On August 16, 1999, Clifford passed away.

Georgia and her high school sweetheart, Duane reunited; and she gained three bonus children, Michael Furtwangler, Sharon (Tom) Robison, Bill (Ann) Furtwangler; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Georgia and Duane kept busy in the wood shop they had built behind their house in Grayling, Michigan. They made beautiful furniture, jewelry boxes, fishing pole holders, and anything else you might want. Duane was the carpenter, and Georgia did most of the sanding, painting, and staining.

After Duane’s passing in January of 2018, Georgia moved back to Kentwood. Georgia lived out her life enjoying her family, and quilting beautiful quilts, casserole holders, baby blankets, placemats, wall hangings and table runners. When she took a break from her quilting, she would find a good book to read. She also enjoyed family trips to Florida, day trips to Jackson, Michigan, to visit her brother-in-law, Bill Parrott, and his family. In nice weather, she would walk outside around her building three times a day or spend time quilting on her balcony in her rocking chair. And in bad weather, she would walk the halls of her building. Due to her hearing loss, Georgia didn’t do much socializing, but the residents in her building knew and loved Georgia.

Terry and Jennifer shared taking care of Georgia for the last six years of her life. Terry would take care of her in the summer, and Jennifer would in the winter. Jennifer always seemed to get the short end of the stick. In 2021, Georgia had a nine day stay in Gainesville due to her gall bladder operation, and in 2023, two more hospital stays, one in November and one in December. Jennifer took amazing care of her grandmother, which at that point was no easy task.

On January 4, 2024, Georgia got her wish to join all those that went before her to Heaven. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Mike Wernick officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
