Julie Piers

July 27, 1966 ~
November 29, 2023

Julie Piers, after a long battle with cancer, was called home to be with our Lord on November 29, 2023, at the age of 57. Julie was born July 27, 1966, in Grand Rapids, MI to Rev. Marvin and Jackie Heyboer. Over the years, she had many places she called home within the United States and abroad, including Gboko, Nigeria, and Abbotsford, British Columbia. She graduated from Calvin College with a degree in Elementary education, before marrying Don Piers on July 29, 1989 in Ripon, CA. Julie taught at many different Christian schools, and even ran a preschool out of the house while in Laredo, TX. She had a wonderful way with children; you could say she was God’s gateway to a child’s heart. She did not teach subjects to children, but taught children subjects. Her central objective was always to know and love each individual child. Julie loved to shop and to exercise. She was a wonderful wife and a wonderful mother to her two sons, Jacob and Nathan. She also carried a strong unwavering faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, even in the midst of her four battles with cancer. Relationships were very important to Julie, as many of her friends would surely agree. Julie will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Don Piers; sons and daughter-in-law, Jacob and Carly Piers, Nathan Piers; parents, Rev. Marvin and Jackie Heyboer; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Laurie Heyboer; nephew, Michael Heyboer; and niece, Katherine Heyboer. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Rev. Dale Piers and Rev. Peter Jonker officiating. Burial will take place at Zutphen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, December 7 from 6-8 pm and Friday from 10-11 am at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to African Widow and Orphan Support (AWOS).
