Julius “Cork” Horvath

Julius “Cork” Horvath, of Allendale, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Ruby (Patus) Horvath; and his youngest brother, Joseph Horvath. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Margaret “Peggy” Horvath; children, David (Lorine) Horvath, Anne (Keith) Brouillette, Julie (Joseph) Lauck, Thomas Horvath, Marcy (Peter) Torres; 17 grandchildren; brother, Charles (Sandra) Horvath; sister, Mary Ann (Tom) Harbin; and several nieces and nephews. Before graduating from Washington Clay High School in South Bend, Julius served first in the Army Reserves and then after graduation, joined the U.S. Air Force. He later received a business degree from Indiana University, in Gary, Indiana, and a theology degree from Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting, Indiana. Julius worked as a deputy for the St. Joseph County Sheriff Department in South Bend and as a firefighter for the Clay Township Fire Department. He retired from Northern Indiana Public Service Company as a Customer Account Supervisor. Julius was an avid race fan and spent many Saturday nights at Berlin Raceway. He was an active member and volunteer at St. Luke University Parish, where he was instrumental in organizing the Knights of Columbus and served as their first Grand Knight. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at St. Luke University Parish, 10144 42nd Ave, Georgetown Township. The burial will take place at Allendale Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke University Parish.
