July 15, 2022

Len Scripsema, age 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 15, 2022, just 12 weeks after the passing of Lois (Poskey) Scripsema, his wife of 71 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Mary Scripsema; siblings, Fran Christians, Robert Scripsema, and Donald Scripsema; sons-in-law, Michael Wyngarden, and Ronald VanDyke. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Dave (Deb) Scripsema, Sue VanDyke, Beth (Jim) Hekhuis; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Len grew up in Grandville and graduated from Grandville High School in 1946. Later that year, he joined the army and valued his time spent on the west coast while serving at Fort Lawton, Washington. After he returned home, his romance with Lois blossomed, and they married on August 24, 1950. For many years, he worked as a carpenter building houses, and later in kitchen design and sales, generously helping family and friends with countless projects through the years. In retirement, he sharpened his skills on the lathe and crafted many beautiful wooden bowls. He was a life-long member of First Reformed Church of Grandville, 3060 Wilson Ave. SW, where a memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, with a coffee reception afterwards. Relatives and friends may meet the family prior to the service at church from 4:30-6:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the caring second floor north staff at Sunset Manor and Emmanuel Hospice for giving Len such kind, respectful care. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to First Reformed Church of Grandville, Mel Trotter Ministries, or Emmanuel Hospice.
