Paul A. Wassink

March 4, 1958 ~
July 14, 2022

Paul A. Wassink, a humble servant of the Lord, was healed from earthly struggles on July 14, 2022, and now rejoices in the glory of God.

Paul was the first-born to Harold (Bob) and Evelyn (Dykhuis) Wassink on March 4, 1958, and grew up in Holland, Michigan. While Paul graduated from Holland Christian High School, he also learned greatly by helping in the family’s construction and blueberry businesses. Paul majored in accounting at Dordt College, which is where he met the love of his life and best friend.

Paul married Jan Rienstra on January 3, 1981 during a snowstorm in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania. They settled in Grandville, Michigan and were blessed with 2 children, Amy and Jeffrey. As a family, they enjoyed many Paul-planned trips, spent time on their boat, and were active in the community of Ivanrest Church.

As a CPA, Paul provided years of knowledge and care for his clients. Many knew Paul as the managing partner of The CPA Group in Grandville, and clients and coworkers alike knew him as a gentle confidant, careful adviser, and trustworthy friend. Paul used his wisdom and expertise in many volunteer positions over the years, from Cadet counselor, catechism teacher, deacon and elder at church, board president of World Renew and board president of the Barnabas Foundation. His strong passion for the church influenced his actions and genuine concern for others.

A man of so many interests, Paul loved reading all sorts of books, traveling, photography, collecting “cool stuff,” woodworking, building things for Jan and his grandboys, and most of all, being with his family.

Paul will always be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Jan; his children Amy & Jason Flietstra and Jeff Wassink; his grandchildren Gavin and Bennett Flietstra. He remains the cherished son of Bob and Evie Wassink, brother to Steve (Robyn) Wassink and Lisa (Mark) Timmer; son-in-law of Ruth Rienstra and brother-in-law to Ruth (Larry) Spalink and Donald Rienstra. He is the famous “Uncle Paul” to many nephews and nieces and their children. Paul was welcomed into heaven by his brother Kenneth Wassink and father-in-law Thys Rienstra.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 11am at Ivanrest Church, 3777 Ivanrest Ave SW, Grandville, with Pastor Brandon Haan officiating. The private burial will take place at Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Family and friends may meet Paul’s family on Monday, July 18 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm at Ivanrest Church. Memorial contributions can be made in Paul’s honor to World Renew or the Tuition Assistance Fund at Hudsonville Christian School.
