February 16, 2024

Ruth Fales, age 94, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away peacefully and went to her heavenly home on Friday, February 16, 2024. Ruth’s one and only career that she had through her adult life was being a mom and taking care of her family and it was a job that she loved more than anything in this world. In her free time she enjoyed anything that involved a needle and thread or yarn and could often be found quilting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She was an avid reader. She also had a beautiful singing voice and her family enjoyed listening to her sing throughout the day. More than anything, though, Ruth loved spending time with her family, up north at the cabin, at Christmas, her favorite holiday, or any time. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Richard, after his retirement, to visit family and friends and to their place in Florida every winter. Her grandkids could always count on Grandma Ruth cheering them on in various sporting events and school functions, and supporting them in whatever they did. She was preceded in death by her siblings, James (Ruth) Veach, Thelma Veach, Lee Veach, Mary (Bo) Patton, Pearl Nickerson, Ruby (Worth) Austin, Charles (Marcella) Nickerson, Dwight Lockman, Nelson Lockman; siblings-in-law, Lester (Margaret) Fales, Nellie (Art) Carpenter, Bertha (Kenneth) Greenman, Clarence E. Fales, Agnes (Karl) Raiser, and Clarence W. (Luella) Fales. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 73 years, Richard Fales; children, Lyle (Penny) Fales, Steve (Lisa) Fales, Robin (Jeff) DeYoung; grandchildren, Jacob Fales, Bradley (Sally) Fales, Holly Specht, Samantha (Will) Willis, Justin (Lauren) Fales, Cole (Michelle) Fales, Josh (Beth) DeYoung, Andrew DeYoung; great-grandchildren, Kallie Fales, Karsten Fales, Ruby Fales, Liam DeYoung; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, February 23, 2024 at MKD Funeral Chapel, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood, with Rev. Gene Pearson officiating. Burial will be held at Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 6-8 pm and an hour prior to the service on Friday from 11 am-noon at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods.
