This picture beautifully captures the essence of my mother’s spirit, style and personality. She was one of a kind with a beautiful soul. Her signature braids, big blue eyes and warm smile will be deeply missed. Until we meet again, We Love You!

Susie Porterfield, those close to her knew her as Bernadette, a cherished soul beloved by many, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her. Born on April 21,1952, in Ronceverte, West Virginia, Susie touched the lives of all who crossed her path.

In her lifetime, Susie was a beacon of warmth and compassion. She is survived by her three devoted daughters, Lori Lee, Amy (Josh) Start, and Tina (Kurt) Lang, who carry forward her spirit of love and generosity. Her 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, and her love for them knew no bounds.

Susie’s light extended beyond her immediate family, reaching her sisters, Vicki Morgan and Donna Porterfield; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Known for her unwavering faith, Susie found solace and strength in her relationship with the Lord. Her passion for gardening was evident in the beauty she cultivated around her, and her heart overflowed with love for her faithful companions, her dog Gee and cat Kit-Kit.

A true connoisseur of life’s simple pleasures, Susie found joy in the little things, especially in the thrill of discovering treasures at thrift stores. Her selflessness knew no bounds, always putting the needs of others before her own.

Susie’s circle of friends was a testament to her caring nature. She shared deep bonds with her long-time companions, Judy, Dinah, Joyce, and Jimmy, whose lives were enriched by her presence.

As we bid farewell to Susie, we take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with her loved ones who have passed before her, including her dear mother and father. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know her.

May her spirit continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who loved her.
